Yes folks it's true. After much deliberation, and not a little hesitation, I have decided the s4 must go.

I don't suppose for one minute anyone on the forum would be interested in actually buying it, but I would like some advice on what sort of price it would fetch as a stand alone sale.

Regular readers will know that it's a ridden everyday, all weather machine, with 28,00 miles on the clock. It's bog standard exept for the high level termignonis, and comes complete with Ducati trademark flacky paint around the engine block and footrest thingy's. As you can see from my avatar, the colours Senna.

On the plus side, its taxed, MOT'd till next year, and has been serviced at the correct and proper intervals by experts in their field. It has just been, this week, fully serviced at Rosso Corse. This service included new belts, shims, all fluids etc I also had the clutch and rear discs replaced at the same time. The tires are in good nick, and I do clean it reguarly.

In short, it's a great looking bike that goes like hell and sounds good to boot. (but you know that anyway)

Why I hear you say? It's simple; I ride too many miles a year to make it economically viable. I've been told it's like buying a TVR to go minicabbing, and I need a cheap commuter bike.

Ideally, the new owner will be a low milage rider, who carries out minor servicing as a hobby, and is looking for an upgrade to s4 land without having to pay mega bucks.

If that does sound like you, perhaps you could send me a PM. In the meantime could all the usual suspects, (and smartarses) give me an idea of what sort of price I could ask.

Cheers
Martin

Martin,

I clearly no nothing about anything but it seems fairly sensible to say that you have already taken the pain in terms of running costs and to bail now would make your previous expenditure unjustified. Your no longer in the throws of official servicing, undoubtedly you have the insurance bods tucked up and having given Mr Depreciation a firm poke in the eye it should all be roses from now on.
What’s £3500 to a man of your calibre? Granted, it is a night out (just about) but by the time you’ve bought a sensible pup you’ll have downgraded for a pocket of shillings. I say draw a line under the cost thus far and use her like you stole her (TM A fool) .

It is not about giving away a chariot and hanging up the Furygan only to return with a neon pullover and matching dust buster.

This is the the voice of reason wishing you well either way.

Ciao
Richard

ps TVR's aren't good for anything except waxing. And inflating your kahonies.

What Richard said, you've suffered the costs so why let someone else have the benefit.

I agree more. Sounds like you are having a worry, there is a lot of it going about and it is not to be encouraged. Should you leave the monster fold then please attened the events, you are one of the few people in this world I can engage in "small talk" and not be struck by an overwhelming urge to throw myself at passing combine-harvesters (country talk for the central line)

keep it and good luck.

ps.If using I tunes stop now, there is free stuff out there....those 80p's soon stack up.
pps.My experience of the tvr (forza motorsport) is not something to celebrate, oversteers like like a pill'd up lizard, get the Excige.

exige perchance?

I would have let you off but you forgot a crucial letter in Pornography earlier.
Wrists slapped etc, don't need Herr B on your back.

I agree again. You would be Mad(!!) if you did and it is not about joining those ranks.

Dear hearts - my chiffon is wet; thanks for the kind words.

Nat, that is just the sort of figure I had in mind. Thanks.

Richard old buddy, old chum, I know what you mean about taking the pain; the problem is its the third time this year I've taken it. Those 6000 miles just come round too fast for my wallet to keep pace.

I don't intend to disappear completely, I've made too many friends here, and I still believe the monster is the worlds best looking bike. I do have a cunning plan, let's see what happens.

In the meantime...keep those PM's coming.

Ps Hey Nonnie - you may scoff, but my regime kept me upright...unlike some!
I'll show you some more shapes soon.

Cancel Itunes subscription - the money saved on not downloading 1125 singles (or 112.64 albums) will pay for the next service.
Sorted!

Ahhh the subtle aroma of damp chiffon (or buff...)

Martin - keep the damn thing and buy an old GS650 like what Ive got for commuting and then you'll be good either way - the monster has to remain!!!

Itunes has been the downfall of many a good man/woman/beast - filesharing is good, safe & you know it makes sense...

Meanwhile whatever you decide you need to do, and afterall we are our choice, keep in touch and keep on riding.

Take care and flog happily. even if it is the bike...

You can talk young man - you were only saying the other day it might be time to get rid of your gorgeous Monnie too! :(

Vespa's. CB500's, gadzooks! I'd rather come in on hoop and stick.

I do take Benson and Slobs (how are you both? been a while etc) point about the cheap commuter bike, but garage's in my neck of the woods change hands for 15K, and I can just squeeze past one bike out front as it is.

I'm currently negotiating with someone who shall remain nameless, about swopping the s4 for a 2000, M900 with lower mileage. I know it's the same meat, different gravy scenario, but everyone tells me air cooled 2 valve bikes are much cheaper to run.
I'll still look cool coming to work, I'll still be a complete and utter member of UKMOC, but with lower bills.
Question now is, what is the (albeit tricked up) M900 with less than 7k on the clock, worth against my s4?

Sorry to keep this boring thread going, but Iwould appreciate your thoughts.

I love you all...that's you as well Nonnie!

That ZX12R keeps calling to me..... then there's the new ZZR1400 - I clearly have a bit of a Kawasaki thing...

I do love my Monster though :burnout:

I'm commuting on mine all weathers as from now, especially as I have to leave this metropolis and go further afield from December :( I refuse to get rid of mine in favour of a work horse and will sell my body (erm I'd only get a few pence, so may have to rethink that one!) if I have to, to keep her on the road, which hasn't been easy lately!

How much will that REALLY save you in a year and is it worth you giving up a cool bike that is YOURS and that you know etc???? Stop this nonsense. Keep the bike, sign up to the weekender and behave. Consider yourself told. I'll swap my bike for yours for a year, you can enjoy the running costs all you like and we'll swap back again when you realise how much you love your bike! :p

:D :D Hope to see you both again there...my bike rally buddies and men always refer to them as UDI's (unidentified drinking injuries), 'cos you normally can't remember how you did it the next morning. :D

I'm with the majority m8, keep it! I don't think you will save that much cash as most bikes need frequent servicing. More importantly, your gonna feel "cheap as chips" on a rice burner if your used to Bolgnas' finest.
If you do sell I may be interested, some muppet has just reversed into mine and it looks like it may be a right off. I will be heart broken if it is, but it does give me an excuse to upgrade!!! every cloud and all that tosh.....
