Just bought some of the ACF spray for use on my old CB500 through the winter. (Ducati gets the cheap stuff - WD40, as its off the road in a few weeks)

thanks for the comments.

I've done a few tests on this stuff:

Basically I cut three pieces of mild steel with one side rusty and the other a clean metal finish. One piece was coated with ACF-50, another with WD40 and one left untreated. These were then dipped in salt water once a day for about an hour and then hung in garage. This process was repeated for a week with the following results:

Clean steel

Rusty Steel

In both cases it can be seen that ACF-50 out performs WD40. I know this is not very scientific but I figured I don't ride under scientific conditions anyhow. I tried the same test with with some ally but there was no sign of corrosion with either WD40 or ACF-50 so it didn't seem worth posting piccies of this.

So it does appear that ACF-50 is better at stopping corrosion than WD40 but is it worth over £12 a tin? Only you can answer that one. ;)

I've heard good things about ACF-50, I wouldn't bother with WD40 as a winter protection compound though, it's a water dispersing solvent and has no long term lubricating or anti-corrosion properties other than driving existing water out.
The other stuff to try is Scotoiler's F365 spray, about £5 for a litre, needs reaplying several times through the winter but works very well.

I thought the spray would dry but it doesn't it leaves an oily residue the same as WD40, not sure if you wipe this off it still protects.
