I have a new chain (for my monkey) but its the old type with no visable x ring or o ring. Whats the best form of lubrication, i believe it involves boiling it in a saucepan of hot grease and hanging up to drain and cool etc.
I'm happy with this as my new lady of the house is very old and traditional in her ways. But is there a particular product to use or another way to do it?

Any help and advice please as i really dont think spray on chain lube will be very good for its life.

Thanky poos

if you go to a bike shop specialising in classic old brit stuff, they should be able to do you a can of chain grease - looks little like a Fray Bentos pie tin but you can chuck it straight on the gas ring.

I remember doing the chain on my M21, in my mothers roasting tin on the stove whilst she was out.

She must have been an ace detective coz she figured out what the smell was, and that something was wrong with her pan....

Dave, get a normal tin of grease and a bottle of the heaviest hypoid you can find and do a 3 parts grease to 1 part hypoid mix....warm it in an old baking tray in a low oven and get a good blend then place the chain in it, leave it in the warm oven for about 10 mins then switch it off n pull the tin out, pull the chain out on a coat hanger and hang the chain above the tin and let the excess run off. Give it a bit of a wipe down before it goes back on so it doesnt fling lube everywhere............but....its a ****ty job.........try some Castrol chain wax instead.....lets face the monkey aint gonna put that much stress on the chain.

Vasaline or KY jelly works for me, or at a pinch a tub of lard

Just joking... you want to fit the monkey with a SCOTTOILER!!!

no priscilla does not want a scotoiler. I have decided to keep it well lubed with the old castrol tin, but will probably give it a gentle run in. It aint gonna be much stress on it but it will need something, 60mph isnt to be sniffed at. (I hope)
