I thought someone might ask this! Yes you are correct I was all for it however here comes the but..
When I fitted the flywheel I also lowered the gearing / small front sprocket / larger rear so the ratio was low, after a couple of months or so I changed the gearing to std front sprocket and large rear, this proved the best combination to use the mid-range grunt. An adverse effect was the bike was more snatchy at low speeds, this wasn't noticeable at the lower gear ratio. Over the last month or so it has got more irritating as the clutch basket is wearing, more backlash in the transmission, more snatch! So I have put the std flywheel back on which reduces the clutch noise and snatch. The light flywheel does have benefits, 'out of corner drive' is better, but for sure there is less rotating mass and therefore less low rpm damping. Bottom line is if you prefer wheelies and are too not bothered about a bit more snatch below 3000 rpm then fit one, I'm probably getting old!
As for the other thread on ease of fitting, given a degree of difficulty from 1 - 5, I would say 3, you have drain everything, make a puller to get the casing off, the flywheel nut can be pain to loosen without the correct tools, you need to fit the centre bearing and thrust washer with some care - poor design, if you only have normal hand tools forget it, you won't get the lock nut off, unless its one of those that allegedly come loose just at the right time.

ok daft idea here
why not keep the light flywheel and then go for the heavyer harderwearing steel clutch basket ?

I'm going to go the other way heavy flywheel and light alloy basket, not sure which basket to get, the 48 tooth version or the type with the titanium inserts.
