its close but not quite
I wonder if its a font at all or just a DUCATI thing
and only those 6 letters exist

It is/was probably a thing although the current one is tahoma bold or black or italic? or maybe not. Dave knows about this stuff. someone with illustrator could knock the words up easily enough, what's it for mr smp23?

Alex.

ps. are you one of these "R2" units one hears so much about these days?

when i designed the current UKMOC logo i worked the letter sizes out and created each letter as a one off in illustrator. Most corporate logo's are tweaked versions of fonts to stop them being copied or mistaken. In order to copt the ducati performance logo for my tank i had to chop around a couple of fonts in photoshop to get the look so PICCOLO DIAVOLO looked right.

Have to ask, why do you want the font, either get a ducati logo and use/copy it or mae up the letters you want in a similar style, nobody will know if its real font or not.

If only those 6 letters exist, the english language is in for a lean period.
Anagrams of ducati are:
A DUCT I
A CUD IT
A TIC DU
A CUT ID
AC DU IT
CA DU IT
CAD TUI
DUCAT I
CAT DU I
ACT DU I
AD CUT I
AID CUT
AUD TIC
AI DUCT
AT CUD I

The following quote was taken for the MH900e link below, but I have yet to find the font, it could be that only the "DUCATI" letters were designed.

"Most evocative of all for us fortysomething riders, the maker’s name is emblazoned in the superlative double-line font created for Ducati in 1977 by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Italdesign genius responsible for the VW Golf Mk1 and the Ferrari 250LM."

http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?click_id=282&art_id=iol1019925805819D235&set_id=4

The only one I have found that looks close is Street Cred (with a lower case a as in DUCaTI), only the a has a double line across instead of a single.

Alex, I want the font to have some graphics made.

I know it's been a while since there was any activity on this thread, but is anyone any closer in finding this retro font ??

The new ones are
Univers Extra Black & Univers 45 Light

It's unlikely you'll find the retro one, reasonable explanation here:
http://list.ducati.net/pipermail/ducati/2006-April/002532.html

Why would you want the font?
any one off decal you need could easily be designed without the need to reproduce it in a word processor.

I wanted it so that I could get my own patch made - as in my signature badge ( UKMOC Kent )

So if I get a hi-res Kent logo and covert it to vector format (.EPS) for you, that'd do the job?

That would be great Slob, but WTF is vector format ?? ( I'm a complete dumbass with the old PC ) :fou:

Any help would be................most helpful ! :o

Vector format uses maths (do you remember vectors from school?) to describe shapes and colours instead of dots, this means that the image can be blown up as much as you like without becoming blocky. .EPS is the file ending fopr Adobe Illustrator vector format.

Oky doky. So I'll need to get Adobe Illustrator then ??

Man I'm thick !!

No, I'll give you a .JPG or .BMP of the same artwork so you can check it out, then you can send the .EPS to the printer/embroiderer to use.

this is the original that was posted on here:

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/attachment.php?attachmentid=8770&d=1138744128

but that's as large as it will go without distorting,
I'm not having any luck vectorising it without screwing up the colours, so will have a go at work tomorrow, where I can use Illustrator.
(Always important to get the quality right!)
I have also emailed Justin, who did the original artwork to see if he has an .EPS saved somewhere.

Rob, thanks mate.

The image you sent is roughly the size I'm looking for ( it's not for a back panel !! )

Just a nice size for my upper arm. Have any other Kent members got this ?? I could ask for a multiple order, rather than just one.

Make sure the quality is OK. Post the question in the Kent Regional forum, wait a week for a list of interested names, put in a bulk order, add 50p profit per patch and donate it to the club's Web hosting fund.

Good thinking Rob - if I get the first one and post an image, we can go from there.
How you gettin on with the .EPS file ??

Not very well, but I'm not a graphic artist, it can take me a while to get the hang of all the bells and whistles in pro. graphics packages.
Justin may come back to me before I sort it at this rate.

I'll see if I can progress in the mean time - maybe they can work with the JPEG image.

I HATE computers :hissy: They're just not my bag, baby !

Thanks Capo but Rob's already posted the design I'm looking for - I'll try with that first.

If he manages to get the image on an .EPS file then I'll try with that also. Thanks anyway
