Senna Colours!

Does Senna colours have anything to do with Ayrton Senna? I was a big fan, but I can't see how Ducatis would be linked with him, nor do I understand how the colours are linked to him. (I always think of red and white and he wore a yellow helmet.)

Just wondered! :)

It does indeed, he was a big Ducati fan. You may also come across(very rarely) limited edition 998s with a little Senna brass plaque on the top yoke.

Yep..Senna was a huge ducati fan and personal friend of the castiglionis who owned ducati in the 80's/90's. Ducati produced 916 Sennas (300 of each in Mk1, 2 and 3 versions) from '95 to '99. The first was grey with red wheels..hence the monster sheme (although it was never officially called the 'senna' colours.

Senna had only just finished signing off the contract for the colour scheme/spec of the first senna, but was unfortunatley killed the following weekend at the tamburelo corner. His wife agreed to the bike being launched..and heres the spooky bit..the first one was delivered to his brother and he was killed on it the weekend after..

When the castiglionis bought the MV brand, they also did an MV F4 Senna

Thank you Nat.

That was the sort of in-depth answer I would expect! Having seen those pictures, I remember seeing 916's with Senna on. I always wondered why..now I know!

Cheers

Seems a lot of the F1 types like bikes in their spare time. Saw Damon Hill at festival of speed on a classic bike of some sort. seems that fast cars are just the day job and not the dream. Hehe

I was under the impression that the Senna was short version for Sennakot, the herbal laxative, as you would s**t in your pants when you asked the salesman the price of the bike....

A hem!!!
