Had my 6000 miler done last week in belfast, £170. They gave me a 998 for the day whilst they serviced it with full tank of fuel. Bit of a shock considoring that my monster is the biggest bike i have ridden. :burnout: Then on returning to the shop I spied a 749, which they promtly fueled and said bring it back before we close. I have since test ridden a Fazer 1000 that they have which made me realise that the next bike just has to be a Duke. Now I am left with a really difficult decission as I was in the market for a bigger bike anyway.

I really like the monsters low down grunt, styling and ridding position. But its handling doesn't inspire me.

I like the 998's sheer power, handling, brakes etc. But whilst i found the seat to be quite comfortable my wrists hurt quite a lot after about two hours on the bike.

The 749 was more comfortable than the 998 and felt like it was on rails. But have had friends buy them only to swap to 998's or 999's within a couple of months.

So I am trying to decided where my money should go and welcome your thoughts about the differnt bikes. can't wait to ride the s4r.

749/999 is meant to be comfier than the 748/998 - but both are a pain compared to a Monny... if you do a lot of miles/ride regularly, then the S4R would be your best bet I imagine... (as FB suggests).

749S or 749R would be a lovely bike, which you would use more of it's performance more of the time...

BTW. as you have an Sie you can easily tweek the Monster handling - try raising your rear suspension by around 15mm to start with - I was impressed with the difference for £0...

That's 'Balls Out' sports bikes for you.............. :)
...............the only way to alleviate the problem is to blat around everywhere at a licence killing 80mph

If it's just the handling letting the monster down, spend a few hundred quid on getting the suspension improved and set up for you . It'll be miles cheaper than changing the bike, and a well set up monster should out handle pretty much anything!

m1000???????????????????????
I'm with you on that Alex but if your looking for performance
the S4r is the way to go if you can put up with all the cack
plumbing hanging off the front.

Oh and the S4r was one of the options Ewan620 mentioned.

all depends on the dosh available too.

Keep the 620 for the commuting & twisty lanes.

Get a 996/998 (pref an R  ) for the longer hooning. Not comfortable at low speeds for a long time - much better for the open road and trackdays & all the weight then lifts from your wrists.
Helibars fitted will also alleviate achy wrists too.

749/999 more user friendly than 748/9** (IMHO) .. but for me, a licence loser, as when on the 999 - I 'thought' I was coming into bends at about 80ish, to be stunned that I was actually doing 120++ & feeling comfortable whilst doing it!

Quite a few of my mates get a good amount of mileage from their 74*/9**'s - here & into Europe and dont suffer any probs - fitness also comes into play from you too. :)

I'd go with FB (blimey - thats a first for a while, innit? :D ) and try the M1000 as well as the S4R ( I'm not an 'open plumbing' fan either  )

try them all mate (but all for about 100+ miles if you can) ..... its your choice & your money
