Hello to all.
I am looking for a little bit of info if possible. My pride and joy S4R is now due its first service and is booked in this Saturday at Ducati Aylesbury from where it was purchased. Does anybody know what I can expect in the way of cost and service. As a recent convert from Jap 4 strokes this Ducati stuff is still fairly new to me and as a result I automatically booked it into the supplying dealer, thinking it would be cheaper :) although that would appear now not to be the case :( as from what I understand Ducati do not subsidise the first service  . Any little bits of info or advice would be much appreciated.

To be honest I do spend quite a lot of time and money at Ducati Wolves but decided when I bought the bike to book it back in at the supplying dealer... now not sure that was a good idea or not.

Riverside did mine, £140, basically oil, filter and checks, oh and a test ride.
Some dealers dont charge for first service I think, but mine came from Reading so I had to shell out!

I guess it all depends on how much you paid for the bike in the first place - if you paid close to list, then most dealers seem to do the first service labour free and you just pay for oil and filters... if you got a good discount (and I hope you did on an S4R) then they'll get their money back somehow, they always do...

Didn't Ducati Aylesbury give you any indication of how much it would cost when you booked it in?

PS. Personally If the service department present you with a bill, I'd plead ignorance and say "I thought the deal was I only had to pay for oil and filter" and see if you can get away with that...

I did get a fairly decent discount off list price and to be fair I assumed that the first service would be labour free. It always has been before but I have always owned Japs. Having read some of the reports I am now not looking forward to having to pay the bill at the end :(

Of course to maintain the warranty, you have to have the 2nd service after 1 year, regardless of mileage.
So, even though you may have done only 1000 miles, they will charge £608 for servicing in one year !!!!!!

I bought mine cheap knowing there was no service history, and have just done the 6000 service plus the belts for £145 (that includes 2 Ducati plugs @ £13 each !!!), but as the warranty was already invalid, I've saved loadsamoney :bunny:

You may all be interested to know that I have spoken to Aylesbury this morning and they have quoted me £159.00  which is double the cost of the first service on the gixxer that I had last year :( . Mind you nobody told me owning a Ducati would be cheap......

I suppose the upside is the throbbing twin is MUCH more fun :burnout:

Well they had it for the day and loaned me a Multistrada (nice I like them now if you ain't tried one then do so)
Cost me total £190.61 for 10,000KM/12 month service althorgh they stamped the wrong coupon in the book.
Oh and the strada ran out of petrol before I even saw the 1st garage, but someone poped out with some fuel for me :)
Still good service from Italia Moto(lincoln)

I have said this before and i will say it again I still think Ducati service costs are a total rip off, a first service on a ducati costs more than a second service on a some Jap bikes. The first service is fairly easy when all said and done. I would also say they are not difficult bikes to work on with the exception of the closing shims on the 4 valve motors. It really puts me off buying a new Ducati in that I may have to pay above the odds for basic work, so I'll buy old and do it myself!

Yep weighed up the odds of service myself and loose the waranty or go for the dearer option, due to recent problems I decided to go the dealer route.Out of waranty next year so the spanners will be out in the driveway.
