have just had a chat with someone in the ducati game and he tells me that the bottom end on both the 600 and the 750 are the same, just with different barrels and pistons !!! is this true, if so i can see someones bike getting a rebuild soon !!! also, if it is the case, do they both use the same con rod as i have found out in my last thread they all use the same carbs but with different jets, ..... my final questions is................. does anyone have some 750 barrels and pistons laying around on a shelf at the back of the garage !!!!

Don't know about the 600, but there is a DP kit to upgrade the 620 to 750....

I think the crankshaft is also different, stroke for the 600 is 58mm against 61.5mm for the 750. I've a feeling the heads are different too, but I may be wrong on that . . .

You can get a Ducati Performance upgrade from 600 to 680cc. You wont be surprised to learn I looked into doing it on my bike but it costs around £500 from memory. Thats why an engine replacement is probably more cost effective. Theres currently a 900 engine on e-bayer which will probably fetch £250ish.

Chappers - much easier to buy a replacement engine, with what you need in it - then have a go at tweaking the jets etc ;) & adding flatsliders & sorting the airbox out too.

If going bigger barrels & pistons, you might want to think about fitting an oil cooler too........ (current DP ones for the M600 are over £200 new, but obviously deals are out there)

Its a long road to go down, by replacing barrells & carbs.. then another bit & another etc.

Happy shopping

C :)

Thanks very much for the advice - think I'll leave it as it is now that you've pointed that out and buy a 900 or an S4 next year instead...not worth all the time, money and hassle fannying around me thinks now

Hi CK
You mention flatslide carbs. Any recommendations + or where to get.

Thanks
Stuart

These are the carbs you need . . .

Not sure where to get them in the UK though, JHP might be a good starting point??

Speak to Chris Kelly at California Cycleworks (http://www.ca-cycleworks.com)
For the same money as Buying them over here, you could fly out to the states and collect them personally :D

I got my Pistons and Jet kit from him, cost less than a set of rings from Ducati ;)

Are those Hi Compression pistons Dom? Tell me more ... :)
I'd be seriously tempted by an 11.5-1 piston kit at reasonable cost!

Yep Standard Bore 11 or 11.5:1 cr (Cant remember) JE Pistons but with the way the exchange rate is at the moment I know the whole lot with a jet kit was about the same as a Ring Pack over here.....
Check the "My project update with pics" thread in Mods & How tos if you want to see them.

Check Chris Kellys site for current pricing

Having bought the 750 barrels and pistons from ebay, and spent the day taking the 600 apart. They definately dont fit. The external bore on the bottoms of the 750 barrels is bigger where they slot into the crankcases. Bit of a ****ter really.

Off to the pub now.

Haven't seen them on since, but i believe they never got fitted. Good job too because the results would have been very disappointing without changing the crank as well.

so what are the changes from 600 to 750 ?? besides the con rods being longer ?
