Right then,

anyone out there fitted a big bore kit to a Monster? Gonna need new piston rings before too long (soooo much oil smoke!) and can get a 944cc piston kit for the same price as a stock piston kit (California Cycle Works if anyone else is interested).

Will I need to rejet the carbs (already stage 2 Dynojet) and will it overheat with the extra capacity? Is it worth the hassle?

Decisions, decisions......

On a related note, California Cycle works reckon they can get 100bhp from a big bore 900 with a little work.... now where's my credit card!

Harley was the first one in the UK to do this Ped - on his very early M900.
He had done it a long time before we met him in 2002 - try emailing him for info.
It certainly pulls like a train :D

A couple of links that may interest you!
First, report on big bore kit / 900 carb monster, inc dyno charts etc.

Another alternative is a high compression piston kit, such as this one:

And corresponding dyno charts etc

Cheers Guys

just spoke with Rich at Louigi Moto today, he reckons it's a top conversion and well worth the hassle. I feel a winter project coming on...:D

Ped, do make sure you get your bike on a dyno just prior to fitting the kit, then use the same dyno after for an accurate reading.

If you had heard the sorry tales of some big bore kits on the DD bikes........ the pistons on some actually reduced compression. Speak to AK sometime about it.
