Looks like Radar and I won't be making the weekender after all

Leigh went to fit his tax disc holder onto the bike which normally bolts onto the side of the headlight, the bolt came out really easily but putting it back in it seems to have threaded and now it's buggered!

Leigh phoned Spareshack but he wants £150+VAT for a new one or £90 for a second one, we just don't have that sort of spare cash at the moment.

Anyone got a spare headlight we can borrow for the weekend? Leigh's gonna take his into work and see if someone can rethread it for him but he can't do that till next week.

We're both gutted if we can't make the weekender :(

Hi Celeste

what about putting a slightly smaller bolt in with a nut on the back? You might need some washers but it should hold up ok

Another quick fix is to wrap some insulating tape round the thread and tighten it up

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately it's not the bolt that f***ed its the hole and where we've tried to re-thread it using our crappy Halfords rethreading kit the centre part just spins round and round.....

Poor Leigh looks like he's about to throw himself in the canal and muttering something about buying a H*nda

GAFFER TAPE is a quick short trem fix! :)

Celeste.
If you get hold of some Two part araldite and mix it up to the correct consistency and fill the captive nut hole.
Just before its about to go off, slip in a slightly smaller bolt. This should be enough to hold it in place. Allow time for the araldite mix to go off.
This should make a strong "Temporary" repair.
Regards
Craig.

Agreed, or Chemical Metal which is similar.

JB Weld is the stuff I would use and can be bought from Halfords :)

Thanks for the replies guys

We don't want to go down the route of using chemical metal or anything like that, it may be a quick fix solution but he won't be able to get the headlight off again in anything happens to it. Leigh is in this situation as the previous owner bodged up the headlight, probably as a quick fix so he could sell the bike and now Leigh is paying the price

It's just one of those things, hopefully we'll get it sorted out for the trackday

Take the rim/glass off. Put a bolt thru from the inside of the shell thru the holder bracket put a nut on and tighten up. Replace the rim. Did the same on my Honda!
