i took my bike to dave woods for a service and even after doing more than the 6000 mile limit he asked me what i do to my engine !!!!!!! i asked why !!!!!! he said in all his years he's never ever opened up an engine for a 6000 service and NOT had to replace a single valve or shim....... everything was spot on......... he wanted to know my secret............ i just told him i live by just 1 simple rule
RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU GET ON HER
looks like i got a good one........ :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

Pete, mine gets a service every 2 years or 11,000 miles by Pro twins. I do minor stuff myself. One shim replaced each time. Pretty good for 12,000 miles I reckon.
They seem to last well if one is VERY particular with regular oil/filter changes.

over 21,000 miles on 2 monsters since March 02 - not a shim, valve etc ever needed to be done on mine (yet) either. Belts regularly done at 12,000 or 2 yrs as per the book.
Run on shell, oil & filter changes done every 3000 miles.

I've just booked mine in for it's 18000 mile service at Dave Woods on the 7th May. I'll let you know what needed fettling when I pick it up, but it did need a fair bit done (shim-wise) at 12000 miles TBH.

Fods,
Shouldn't that be 3 shims out of 8 on a Two Valve motor
Lee (online monstershop) lists the opening shims at £3.85 each & the closing shims at £10.85. Bung in a few new collets (which according to DWR should also be replaced) at £2.85 each, and the bill can soon start to add up to £££'s by the time the dreaded VAT is slapped on :(
Might explain why the 4 valve heads are so expensive to tweak, as if there would be 16 of them to need checking and/or adjusting?

Scotty, the bikes out of warranty no? Go to over the water to DIT, they're in Washington. His number is 01914172787. He's half the price of M&S, but got all his Ducati certs when working for them. He's very good. Tell him Karl sent you. He won't have a clue what you're on about or who I am, but I often find a bit of confusion useful.
