View Full Version : Removing header pipes

Did a quick search but couldn't anything on this.

Where the pipe joins the collar on the rear cylinder and there are 2 nuts holding it on to threads sticking out from the cylinder, mine are rusted to buggery. I need to remove the pipes but don't want to snap the thread sticking out of the engine. Can these be removed or is there a knack for removing the pipes. I want to replace the nuts and hopefully the threads but they look well stuck. Apologies if my terminology is crap!!!

Cheers.

Hi there
Try heating them up with a blow torch (take your time here !)
Get them red hot then oil them when cool,
Then heat them again and so on
hopfully that will do the trick

Best thing to use is a nut splitter and replace them when refitting. This is less likely to cause the stud in the cylinder head to come loose.

With any luck the thread in the cylinder head will be a left handed thread.

Do as the chap says, splitting the nuts are the best solution and not sheared studs, use Copper slip when re-assembling.
