So I decided to fettle the bugger tonight. Read all the advice and went fo rthe simple option. Replace the plugs, take out the little yellow box and clean the contacts, sacrifice a chicken etc.

Tok the NGKs out and there is mucho fouling. Cleaned them, but decided to replace with the Ducati ones I'd bought.

Anyway, having changed the plugs I noticed two things.

1. the bike definitley will not start when the plug caps are not affixed to said new plugs. Spent almost 10 mnutes trying toget it to start and muttering to myself.

2. Having found the problem, I can't get the plug cap to fit - looking at the top of the plugs, the NGKs have a totaly different connection from the Ducatis -

so what do I do now? I would refit the NGKs, but I'm so despondent at my mechanical crapness that I think I'll open a bottle of red and thrwo things at the neighbours cat instead.

Can anyone tell me the bloody obvious solution to this problem of mine?

Your "plug cap not fitting" dilema is easy to sort out. All spark plugs come with an aluminium sleeve fitted over the threaded stud that the HT lead cap connects to. Whether or not you need to leave these in place depends on the size of the hole inside the plug cap on your bike. On my M600 the plug caps have the smaller holes that require the aluminium sleeves to be spun off. Grab some pliers, remove the sleeves (rotate anit-clockwise) try the plug cap again and I think you'll find that Bob's yer mother's brother.
