Found a January 1968 issue of "Cycle" magazine and it features a article on the London Rocker scene. The US writers met them at the Ace then went on to the other hangouts in the area. They list "The Busy Bee" on the Waterford Bypass, "The Cellar" in Windsor, "The Dugout" in North London, and "The 59 Club" in Central London. How many are still open or at least the building ?

Byron,

The Busy Bee was flattened many years ago, the site is still a Cafe & does good bacon sandwiches too :D

The Cellar & The Dugout...I personally have never heard of...

In 1962 at the Eaton Mission in Hackney, Father William Shergold decided he would try to get involved with these youngsters who were called "Rockers", through his Youth Club, the 59 Club. After all, he had at least one thing in common with them, a motorbike.

His idea was to hold a special Sunday Service in which the bikes and riders could be blessed. Having decided that the best place to make contact with them was the legendary ACE CAFE, he set off on his motorbike with a scarf concealing his church "dog" collar.

He rode past a few times trying to pluck up the courage to enter the car park, but by the time he did, most of the crowd had gone. Not a good start! More info at http://www.the59club.org.uk/

Then of course there's that little known place.....

The Ace Cafe :D http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/
