View Full Version : Ohlins / 916 forks on Monster?

My bike is slowly coming together but looking to see if anyone has the Ohlins Radial set-up with clip-ons? On the box, they are marked up as 916 forks but as I don't have them in front of me so have no idea what diameter clip-ons will fit.

Does anyone know what the diameter of the Ohlins S4R forks are - they are definitely larger as a new top and bottom yoke is included. Can I just use 916 clip ons or do I need to adapt some S4R specific jobbies? The other potential fly in the ointment is the use of the DP top mounted steering damper which I believe uses part of the handlebar mount - anyone shed any light on how this all fits together?

Ideally, looking for someone who has got a S4R with DP Ohlins Radial set-up with the DP steering damper and clip-ons? Spareshack has pointed me in the direction of some Cyclecat 916 adjustable clip-ons but still not convinced that will work. Obviously, it will be a lot easier to try a few varieties when the bike is closer to being back together but would like to know if anyone has done this - pics, links please.

Simon,

Can't vouch for the S4R, but I know the standard redline clip-on mounts (50mm) wouldn't fit mine after I swapped to 916 legs (53mm), and I had to get a new set made up.

What do you mean - a new set made up. The redline clip-ons were bored out to 53mm or another set that fits a 916 to fit the forks. Were the clip-ons mounted above or below the top yoke and do you use risers with yours? Pics please. So many questions so grateful for any morsels you care to drop in this direction.

I had new clamps made up to fit the top of the 916 legs. If I'd had the originals bored out it would have made them too thin, and I didn't fancy having a clip on snap off  . Mine are mounted above the top yoke on 50mm riser blocks, but you can mount them level with the top yoke - I just prefer them higher.

The Ohlins kit for the S4R is taken from the 999R.

That may help you to locate clip ons. When I am next in the garage I will double check that the diameters are the same.

Hope you are making progress with the bike Simon.....the weather can't be crap for ever !

Cheers for that, I'll shimmy over to the Ohlins web site and see the specs over there.

With reference to the bike, it's still in bits but last I heard is that the frame and swingarm have been painted and so the rebuilding process will begin in earnest.

Simon,

Have you put any new photos on your webpage, and if so can you bung up the link again as I've lost it :o
