View Full Version : Petseal (or similar)
Anyone ever done their tank with anything like this or similar. If so, can you give some advice on the best way to do this
Cheers

I've done a couple of tanks with it.
Read this page and page 16 for an idea of what to do and not to do

Second post, got logged out when I checked something else
On the tanks I've done I gave them a thorough swilling with a couple of handfulls of steel nuts in them to break all the rust off the inside, then washed out with petrol.
Left them in a warm place to dry out. Then shone a torch in to check the inside was free of rust.
Then blocked the fuel tap holes with wooden dowel pegs.
Mixed and poured the petseal in and swilled around and around and around for a good few minutes until it had covered the whole of the inside.
Then I removed the plugs and drained the excess out.
Put the tank on a tray with the plugs out and left to dry next to a radiator for a couple of days.
Refit the fuel taps, put the tank back on, fill with petrol and job done.
I had one of the bikes for a year after and rode it every day as a despatch rider without any problems.

I've done a couple, it's good stuff.
As Crust describes above really. Don't remove all the rust totally, a film of rust helps the petseal to bind to the tank. I removed any loose rust by rattling a handfull of nuts about inside. Cover the filler cap in a plastic bag as well. Swill the petseal around to coat the top of the tank first, then sides and bottom as it starts to harden, keep turning the tank till it hardens (takes a few mins), allow to dry, remove dowel you used to plug the fuel tap orifice and plastic bag on fuel filler cap before it's too hard! Instructions are fairly good with it.
