Ok, non Monster question, I've got an '84 CB125TDE that I'm in the middle of tidying up and wondered what the score was with older bike engines and Unleaded fuel. As LRP is pretty much impossible to find, and given that I had to change my '78 Mini's cylinder head to run on Unleaded, should I run one of those Ocatne booster / lead replacement thingies in the bike or is it fine as standard?

I have a 83 Reg Honda 500 Single - had it from new - correct fuel has allways been unleaded. Check the Honda owners site, good chance unleaded is the correct grade for yours as well. Mine has even got a slipper clutch! (the latest gizmo on modern bikes).

I think most Jap bikes were designed to run on unleaded from the 70's onward. My own 1976 honda 400 four used unleaded ok, and was even ok with unleaded after I fitted a Yoshimura 460cc big bore kit. The lead additive was mainly needed by European or British made cars & bikes that used crap materials for the valve and valve seats. The 1980 350 morini sport I bought to replace the 400 four, needed to be run on LRP when 4star was withdrawn due to the valve seats and high (11:1) compression.

I ran one of those 125 Wet Dreams on Unleaded with no probs. As aforementioned, all 80's 'ondas are designed to run on the light stuff.

Have you checked the cam chain tensioner on it yet? Or balanced the carbs? Makes a world of difference to these..

Yep, done the cam tensioner. Also stripped down the carbs and cleaned them (looking forward to balancing them :( ), adjusted all the valve clearances as they were a little tight, have to rework some of the electrics, the rectifier was tucked under the seat and not mounted onto the frame as it should be  . Needs a few other tweaks and new bits (the ignition doesn't turn off when you take the key out, have to stall it  ) but it's got a long Mot and is in pretty good condition.

When I rode it home it was so funny, especially after the monster, thought it was gonna die at over 8000rpm, which is what, 60mph?
