Here's my favourite.

Lovely looking thing (http://www2.interceptor.com/~thumper/xb2/in-flight.jpg)

Anyone else want to nominate something.

Nope wrong :) it was the blackbird,it even leaked fuel when stood on the runway as it was built to fly at high altitude and so contracted to its shape when in use.
Close second the avro vulcan(for the noise) :D

Here's my favourite:

The lines, the materials used in construction make this the most desirable classic out there

Plane1 (http://www.members.aol.com/rgray5959/stanley33.jpg)

No, really I still think it's this:

Plane2 (http://www.strange-mecha.com/aircraft/Stealth/yf22.jpg)

Sleek, purposeful lines, yet with organic curves in certain places - the first in "edge" design?

Orgainic curves? If you're after a plane with organic curves, look (http://www.2020site.org/trees/plane.html) no further.

But here's my vote (http://www.lsfm.org/images/Spitfire.gif). Luvly.

Yeah, cold, noisy and bloody scary - I was only young. Views were fantastic when I didn't have my eyes screwed shut.

I got my brother a flight on one of those a couple of years ago and he loved it! I fancied trying one and perhaps if I enjoyed it - learning to fly one.... especially when they reckon you can pick up a second hand one for £2kish. wahooooooo :burnout:

I'm with gt, the p51, thankfully ford was a nazi fancier so rolly polly got to do the motors. The 38 for speed and firepower, I was at an airshow with my old man a coulple of years back when one crashed (2nd roll too low)

the one they dug out of the ice? If you like this sort of thing then give the IL series flight sims a blast, my old man is addicted to em. I am more of a half life photoshop and porn man myself but it takes all sorts.

Yerbs, I just love watching programmes of lovely/ugly machines of all types.
How they came to be built, how they sound and how they look. Planes, locomotives, ships & huge engines of all types.
Watch stuff like this all the time on Jan's cable tv. She love's this stuff too.

Blackbird? Piece of sh*t.

Now the YF12A, now that was beautiful. :D

Years back a mate of mine in the RAF (Vulcan navigator) did an exchange with the USAF and told me about the Blackbird. He confirmed that it does indeed leak like a sieve when sitting on the tarmac.

A few facts about the SR-71 Blackbird. (Well were on a bit of a roll here with plane stuff, so I thought I'd put it up before the subject burns itself out).

1. The SR-71 Blackbird, is built from titanium alloy, for lightness and because it can withstand the frictional heat of the air as it flies at up to Mach 3.5 (2,500 mph).

2. Special tools and machinery had to be made to build the Blackbirds, as normal tools would cause corrosion of the titanium alloy.

3. Both it's engines were on permanant afterburn. (or reheat if you're in the R.A.F.)

4. It leaked fuel until it got up to speed, when the frictional heat against the aircraft heated it up and caused the alloy to expand. If it had been built so as not to leak, the skin would have buckled as it expanded.
