It's got twin coaxial rotors so it don't need a tail rotor.

Warewolf, russian ground attack heli.

yep, but so's this:

Kamov Ka-29TB (http://www.b-domke.de/AviationImages/Rotorhead/Images/1363.jpg)

So that's not why it's special . . .

Isn't it supposed to be the first 'production' helicopter with a proper rocket propelled ejection system? the blades detach and the pilot shoots out the top canopy or summint

If memory serves, the Americans toyed with sideways ejection systems in their bigger helicopters, now thats crazy!

This is a Pavelow refuelling, when it all goes pearshaped and they cut the refuelling boom on their own helicopter with the rotors.

Now, that's crazy!

BTW - This isn't gruesome so there's no worries with watching this.

Ahh, XH558 (he says sounding all knowing) thats the one they're raising money for to get flying again? Am I right in thinking there are no flying Vulcan's at the moment? I saw that one ages ago at an air show (I know I know :o ) at as it roared past over head all you could hear was just about every car alarm in the place going off  Fecking loud those things!!!

Does the pointy bit on the end make it go really fast? or is the good news that there is one of these apocalyptic payload delivery systems still flying?

Does the pointy bit on the end make it go really fast?

No, the pointy bit is purely for skewering even villians of the Ming the Merciless ilk

"Gordon's Alive!!" and all that

cheers jon I suspected as much! It's a lovely "bit of kit" but it would look nicer with a flame job (IMO ETC..)

I only ever saw a Vulcan flying the once - at least 25 years ago - and the noise was totally unforgetable - no monster, whatever its fitted with, will EVER come close.

AWESOME :burnout:

The great news is that 558 WILL fly again, contracts have been signed, she`ll do the 2006 air show circuit and have a 10 year flying life, then will retire at Duxford in fast taxi mode along with an educational display about the cold war, I have been involved in the fund raising effort for this project and am delighted that people will be able to see this awsome aircraft fly again !
