with apologies to the DSC for copying this from their site, but please read on:

Hello chaps, and chapesses! I'm doing any other old v new feature for MCN and I'm looking for some people to assist me. Just like before (when you helped with the 916 v 999 feature) you can get your face in the paper along with your comments on your bikes.

I need to find three people who've owned a '98-02 900SS AND a 1000SS (it has to be both)

I also need three people who've owned a 600 Monster and a 620 Monster

If you can help (or know anyone who can), please drop me an email with your phone number to: michael.neeves@emap.com.

Try to respond to this email address if you can, as I'm out of the office a lot on test and can't always check your message board. I'll need to ring you anyway, so I doubt you'll want to broadcast your number to the world anyway.

Thanks for all your help, and fingers crossed we can get enough people involved.

Regards

Michael Neeves
MCN Senior Road Tester

so those who have had those M600/620 - get emailing!

Do I need to get drinks in here somewhere? These are my first posts with this ID.

Chris appears to have the big bore thing sorted so you guys should be alright. I was a bit embarrased there for a bit having the 620, but then I though that it would give me a better chance to not finish last - so I started to warm to the idea ;)

No doubt you've got some fast rider lined up that is going to make me look ordinary anyway ....

Oooo TP enlighten me please ?

CK & AK

err, actually its AK that has been sorting the big bore for the later bikes, with JHP & Ducati UK - but they are calling Chris tomorrow (as the boss man) to let him know if they have 'those' pistons Lin.

so types CK, having seen our bike as just a frame on the floor tonite, with a tank & seat pod balanced on it!

Err but what about the barrels or are we going down the route we discussed the other night?

CK & AK

the pistons from the old kits wont do a lot, so we are hopeful about the newer set, to manager to get the pistons, and yes - bore & nickelcoating, but waitng for confirmation.

I was even on the phone to the states today, trying to track down some of those newer kits that went there last year - no luck :(

I dread to think what Al's & my phone bills will come to this week - maybe we get the other riders to have a whip round at Cadders? :D

Surely you could use the same pistons as the bore and stroke are the same aren't they?

Phoenix

This is a nightmare :(

I've got til tomorrow to make my mind up on this or I won't get run in and workshop work done before Donington 22nd.

I've got Max in bits in the living room awaiting cans I was expecting today but didn't arrive so can't do anything til they get here cos rearsets won't support low levels.

And having a devil of a job coming up with bracketry work for fairing and and front number board.

Tony, if I had the time I'd send you the pics, the spec etc - but the pistons aint the same mate - thats the trouble.
The ones from the older kit COULD be fitted - also by boring out the barrells, but they are shorter, so would lose compression, so not much gain here!:(

We cant get hold of the post98 kits for love nor money anywhere in the world it seems, tho there is a slim chance of poss 6 sets of pistons, of which 4 are needed.

Fingers xx'd

C

ps: Lin, Al says if they cant get the new set pistons, ours is going as a 583, cos it isnt worth his while fitting the older type.

Not unless Ducati offer us 620's for the inconvenience

Weeksy specials .....

I hadn't had the suspension sorted then, it feels SOOOOO much better now :D

Having said that, the 996 is in bits in the garage at the moment after an over-enthusiastic cleaning session ....

But the 620 feels like a bucket of POOO! Neil is sorting that out though, special FB springs and oil for the forks and shock ;)

Are these the infamous clip-ons that used to be on my old bike? The old and battered 600 that came second in the dirtiest bike contest at the Monster Weekend last year. I had no problems with them!! They took a few rides to get used to but after that I loved them. I wish I could get some to fit my M1000. Can you lot stop talking about the Desmo racing you're making me jealous.

Big bore shmig bore. Stick with what you've got. Just go round the corners quicker! Who needs brakes?! Obviously clip ons will help you to do this!!

Lin,

It's worth taking time fine tuning the bars to suit you if there's scope to adjust them. When I first lobbed the redlines on my bike it felt crap, but I took a few days tweaking the angle and lever positions and it fits like a glove now. I'm sure you will find it better than standard in the long run, especially as you have rearsets fitted too :burnout:
