high beam switch?

As I have just gone back to a standard lamp I decided to engage in some high beam fun.....what's with the switch?! it's a small grey button that is a real fiddle (how quaint) to get to? and I have girly fingers...has something fallen off? -the switch, not me- or are "they all like that sir.." So if any one could stand in the street and have a look at their knobs I would be very greatful.
