Monster Weekend and Minimoto - Important, please read!

As Phoenix is pretty tied up I'm taking over the organising of Minimoto on the Saturday afternoon of the Monster weekend, 30th April.

As you know, a vote was taken on what to do on the Saturday, and Minimoto was by far the most popular. I went down to see the nice people at Hullavington and provisionally booked the venue, and negotiated a special UKMOC rate of £30 a head instead of the usual £40, the only requirement being that we need to fill at least 25 places.
The plan is to have a massed ride down Saturday late morning, 40 odd miles of good roads including the favourite Fish Hill at Broadway, do the Minimoto, and ride back to Arrow Mill afterwards.
For your £30 you get a 10 minute practice session to get used to the track and the bike, then a GP style series of race heats, followed by semi finals and a grand final, with trophies being presented to the winners at the end.

Now the bad bit. Only eight deposits of £15 have been sent, plus four between Phoenix and myself, making a total of twelve. We need to pay a £300 deposit in the next week or two to secure the venue, and at the moment the numbers don't add up.

If you would like to take part in Minimoto please forward your £15 deposit to Phoenix ASAP (PM her for details) . If we don't get the support we need we'll have little option but to cancel the booking and return those deposits already paid, and as both she and I will be very busy with prepping her bike for DesmoDue and getting track time in before her first race meet there isn't much prospect of an alternative being arranged, by either of us at least. Spectating doesn't help much, we need riders, so if you're unsure then why not try it, i guarantee it's well worth it, the most fun you'll have had in the afternoon for a long long time!
Note that Phoenix will be away for a week from Fri evening (11th Feb) so contact me instead during next week if you need to.

It would also be helpful if those definately interested could put their names down on this thread, perhaps copy and paste the list in the previous post and add their name to the end, so I can get an idea of numbers.

I know nothing about the Monster weekender or what it's about but I fancy a go on a minimoto so if the dates are agreeable, I'll pop along. So simple questions first: when is it and where is it and do I have to have been booked in for the Monster weekend(er) or whatever it is? I'm also a lazy bugger so don't fancy looking in other parts of the forum to find the info.

Also what's the crack with the weekender - is some kind of wife swapping meeting where all the keys are thrown in a hat and you get to ride other people's nearest and dearest?

Hi Simon, date is Saturday 30th April, no you don't have to be booked in for the weekender as well, though it'd be good to see you there as well of course! As for the wife swap concept etc, it's an interesting concept and could well catch on .... :D

Just to compound the difficulties, the first DesmoDue race meeting takes place over the same weekend as the monster weekend (30th April, 1st May) and as many of you no doubt know Phoenix is representing UKMOC in the series, and I'm team mechanic. She was initially going to miss the first meet and do the monster weekend instead, as she's organised most of it, but has been persuaded to sign up for the race meeting by Terry, and he'll take over the weekender organisation. This means that Phoenix, myself, Jason and Brolly Dolly will all be at Cadwell on Saturday, and reduces the numbers for minimoto by four.
I'll still arrange it and sort out deposits etc if we can get the numbers though ...

Well, I had thought we had no option to cancel minimoto, but it does appear there's some last minute support here, so I'd say it's getting close to being viable again as far as deposits paid goes.
It looks unlikely that Phoenix and family or myself will be there as we're likely to be racing at Cadwell, but I'll sort the deposit side out and it'll be down to you lot to sort the rest of it out on the day.
Just to remind you, the pricing deal we agreed with the venue is based on a minimum of 25 participants, so it would be in your interests to rope anybody else in to have a go that you can, even if they don't do the rest of the monster weekend or aren't part of the club! Perhaps a competition could be organised against another club / forum (hornets perhaps? :p )
There's no maximum, they can cater for at least a hundred!

That's 14, as Lin and family and myself won't be there by the look of it.

Good news is that 14 deposits is enough to secure the venue, so looks like it's viable at last. Just last week I was gonna cancel it through lack of support!!
You'll have to rope a few more in on the day, but once the deposits are in with Phoenix I'll go ahead and confirm the booking / put down the deposit. There's been interest from one or two other forum members who have other priorities for their cash right now but would love to do the day itself.

Planning on bringing my DV camera to this......thing is bringing such equipment normally tempts a few moments to appear. I fear a few sore bums(not in a funny way) and bruised reputations to be the order of the day.
