View Full Version : burning too much?

I have become increasingly concerned that my fuel consumption isn't what it should be.

I've never considered it to be quite right but never let it concern me massively but just lately with too much time on my hands I have started to keep tabs on it.

She's due for a service soon and I intend to get the guys to check the fuel/ecu mapping but could there be a more serious issue? I run with a set of sils but otherwise standard in engine dept.

I only got 120 miles out of my last full tank and whilst I make the effort I am no hooligan!

Thanks chaps.

liberty has a price, the worry! I get 120 untill the sensor makes its presence known, I think there's about 15 miles on top of that. thats 10 years old, carbs with KN bits in them and filter and sils? I am a demi holigan (just bought a camo waterproof, very streetfighters)
a bientot.
ps the room is jesus kitsch, the french love all that. oh and there are horses next door so perhaps some latent girly horse fancying vibes are kicking in.

My bike's very similar to yours(DP pipes/filter) Richard and I get about 140 from a tank. Maybe 150 on the open road and 130 if I'm really gunning it round town. I don't usually push it too far once the fuel light comes on 'cos I hate pushing bikes.

oh well I guess that’s good news, atleast I’m not loosing loads somewhere down the line. Is this normal with bikes in general, always been a myth that they are easier on your wallet than the 4 wheeled alternative. at 9 quid a pop for 120 miles it ain’t exactly cheap! Wouldn’t care if it weren’t for the recent withdrawal of the company fuel card :(

I don't think 60 odd mpg is too bad. I'm sure it's better than the 17 gallons your land-cruiser will burn in a traffic jam on the M4 between Heathrow and Hammersmith.

Yep, same here. Fuel warning light comes on at around 110 miles then I'm almost on fumes at 125 miles. I'm running mine completely standard apart from noisy ART cans. I did think about dyno-jetting, as there are some on this forum caliming to get 160 to 170 out of a tank. I think they must be free-wheeling down hill!

This thread has appeared a couple of times before, if you do a search. ;)

that sounds about right, 125-30 then an extra 15 on reserve? could end up paying for the jets in saved petrol after a while. remember they run rich from factory. nice to hear from you MH old bean.

Yep - usually get 145-150 miles to reserve, but the most I normally push it to is 165 before filling. Most I ever got was 176 miles when I missed a garage I wanted on the M3, but think I was on fumes by the time I tanked

Oh and no free-wheeling on hills needed BTW :D

Mine must be !!!!ed then, 150/160 out of town, 90ish in it. mind you in it I rarely hit third and I'm not too shy at traffic lights, which is about 25 each way to work every day on my mammoth 6 mile journey. should have kept me old Vespa really.

I get just over 100 miles out of my 620 b4 the orange light appears. That gives me another 30. I reckon i get more since I fitted termi's tho.

On my S4 with Iridium plugs, termis, open air box, ducati chip, throttle bodies set up by my own fair hand never less than 120, average 130, best 140 before the light comes on.

Hmm.. anybody getting more than 130 to a tank is on a long motorway journey or rides like a (very conservative person who is ecologicaly sound and dosn't want to waste a penny of hard earn'd on fuel)

My S4 is rarely used on the motorway and the bike is ridden reasonably hard but not abused (no point thrashing a V twin), also have an M1000Sie (wifes) which also averages about the same MPG.
