My S4 seems to be running rich and feels "lumpy" when it gets hot. I have DP airbox,ECU and termis fitted, but have noticed that the pipe going to the pressure regulator is missing does anyone know if this is normal. If it is I guess it could be the engine temp sensor or wiring. I would be grateful for any Help.

Flippin 'ell Jay..how to gain new friends...not..

Have you tried banging the original ECU back on..?

My S4R ran like a bag o' ****e when I fitted the Termi/ECU/Filter kit, but when I ditched the cat/original downpipes it ran much better..making me believe it was running way too rich with the mods...

I was also advised that alot of these DP ECU's made the bike run a little rich and to try fitting the original ECU..

Good luck..

I'll try the old ECU if that doesn't work give Dave Woods a ring. Thanks very much for help. The pipe I was talking about is on the right hand side just under the airbox, or on page 74 index number 7 of the parts book. Thanks again Jay

My S4 has termis, open air box and a stage 1 ECU. The Stage 1 ECU tends to make the bike run on the rich side but it still runs ok. There should two hoses on the regulator, supply and return.

The best way to check if your bike is running rich is to use a CO meter on it, the factory setting is very lean, around 1 or 2% CO, the ideal for V twin is around 5% which should be about where it is with the Stage 1 ECU. Failing that just take one of the plugs after a run, should be light brown in colour.

To weaken the mixture you need to adjust the ECU trimmer, which is electronic and therefore needs specialist tools to adjust it, these are avialable but will cost around £100 plus for the software and you need a laptop, alternative is a PCIII.

I would also check you have the correct ECU fitted:
standard IAW59m-A1, stage 1 is a IAW59m-A2.

You say 2 pipes. The one I've got missing is the top one that acording to the book should have a spring on the end. We where looking at it today and can't see where the other end goes, looked at my mates 916 but its layout is quite different.
The symtoms I am getting are the bike splutters abit if I snap the throttle open, every now and then it backfires through the airbox (which I thought it means its too lean??)and it sometimes cuts out when I pull up, aswell as smelling fuelie.I am going to try all of the suggestions you guys have give me one at a time and see how it is then.
Thanks
Jay

There is an outlet on top of the regulator which looks as if it should have a pipe on it, it doesn't!

Spitting back through the air box is usually due to running weak but could also be a number of other things.

Sounds like the best thing you could do is to connect the bike up to the diagnostic unit and check all the settings are as they should be before going any further as it could be anything and you may end up going round in circles. No idea how much the dealer will charge for this.

Today I changed the ECU back to the original one and its running loads better ( thanks Nat), but still not quite as I think it should.
ShaunS4 what you said about the outlet at the top has settled that, as mine is like that, I thought something should have been connected to it. Also the ECU numbers you gave me don't match with mine. Mine are both IAW59M.A1 but one has a"Ducati Performance ECU silencer racing MS4 96506100B" sticker on it.
Cmon Stickier roads let the fun begin.

the A1 ECU is the std one so thats ok, not sure about the stage 1 that you have all i can say mine is an A2 (marked for a 996) and it runs fine, confused you will be!
