Most tyre shops (near here) offer F.O.C. fitting to loose wheels - so my question would be why bother?

I used to be a tyre fitter for a living (well 9 months) and to be honest i would say if you go to a decent fitter with the tyre he will fit it and spin it up on a balancer and probably only charge for the balancing. Your gonna wanna get it balanced anyway so save yourself the aggro of trying to change the tyre.

I have a home knitted bead breaker made from square tube which works a treat. The problem is not the paying for getting them fitted which I count as money well spent, so much as the distance taking it through to get to a fitter
